Behind The Artist With Rontrell Brimmer

Today we’re behind the artist with Gospel singer Rontrell J Brimmer. Rontrell was one of Musicspace’s first users and the first person to request that we add the “Gospel Music” genre to our list of genre dropdowns on our platform. We’re forever grateful for him being a part of our family. With that said, here’s his story:

1. What’s your name and where are you from?

My name is Rontrell Brimmer, you can call me Trell. I’m originally from New Orleans, La. And currently reside in a small town called Junction City, Kansas.

2. What’s your backstory and why did you start making music? (be detailed)

I started singing at the age of five years old. Like most Gospel Artist, I sang in the church choir. I was always told that I had what it took to be an artist but never gave it a shot. It wasn’t until I moved to Washington, that I ran into someone who truly believed in my ability. Working with this individual gave me the confidence that everyone seemingly knew I already had. I mustered up the courage to release my first single back in December of 2019.

3. Which musician is your biggest inspiration and why?

There are so many musicians that I can pull from but my biggest would have to be Todd Dulaney. I like at him as an inspiration because he’s proven to be a musician that lives what he sings about, which is everything in our genre of music.

4. What’s one failure/Struggle you’ve dealt with in your life and how did you get through it?

The biggest struggle in my life would have to be losing my mother in a tragic incident at the age of eleven. I got through it by leaning on my beliefs and a lot of prayers.

5. What keeps you going even when times are tough?

When times get tough, I constantly tell myself “this is only a test.” Too often we get so focused on the issue that we face instead of asking “what is there to be learned in this tough time?”

6. What’s something (big or small) that you’ve achieved so far that you’re proud of?

I would have to say that hitting my ten-year mark in the US Army has been something I’m proud of thus far.

7. What advice would you give to artists looking to start or build their careers?

I would tell them to do your research for yourself and leave no quarter when it comes to your artistry. It’s okay to have someone do the business side for you but there’s nothing like knowing it for yourself! And as far as leaving no quarter, just give every track your all!

8. Where do you produce your music and what equipment is your GO-TO for music production?

I’m not a producer, I just sing, write, and play the chords for my producer to hear and allow them to flow freely. I’ll simply say yes or no to what they come up with to hone into what it is I’m hearing for the song.

9. What DAW do you use?

The future is looking pretty bright for Rontrell Brimmer. From my five year mark as an artist I plan to release my first full album. Until then I’ll be releasing a single each year until then. From that five to ten year period, I plan to have mastered my guitar in order to release an acoustic album.

10. What does the future look like for Rontrell Brimmer? What’s your 5-10 year goal?

A note to my future self would be if the schedule took a little turn outside of the plan, remember that flexibility is the key and continue to flow like water. If everything is going as planned, make sure you’ve taken someone under your wing and pour everything you have into them.
