The Three Keys To Cold-Emails 🔑

Keep it Concise

People don’t have time to read an entire story.

Be Personable When Possible

Wanna go the extra mile? Add a personal touch to the email that shows you’re genuinely interested in what they do.

Always Follow-Up

Not everyone you email will reply immediately. Some work, have families, and so on, so be sure to politely follow-up (template below) after a few days if you hear nothing back.

1. Asking for A Collaboration

Collaborations are a great way to both expand your catalog and diversify your income. Reaching out can either make or break your chance of a collab, so get to the point:

Hey [Name!]

I just came across your track [insert track name] and loved it! [insert compliment about the track here].

I'm reaching out as I'd love to collaborate with you on a track if you're interested? Here are some links to my music

[Link one]
[Link two]

Please let me know if you'd be interested! It would be awesome to work with you.

Best,

[Your Name]
[Your Social Links]

2. Submitting Music to A Playlist Owner

Playlist owners who have playlists or YouTube channels with large followings are often busy people who have to sift through tens of submissions each day - Many of which don’t even take a moment to consider what genre they’re focussed on. Get to the point, and submit as per their requirements.

Hey [Name]!

My name is [your name here], a Hip-hop artist based in [Country/state].

I'd like to submit the following track to your [Playlist Name] Playlist.

[Insert Link to your song]

The track fits your playlist well as it [explain a little about your track, for example, is it a chilled hip-hop track, or a hyped-up track?].

Please let me know if you'd be able to feature it!

Best,

[Your Name]

3. Playing At A Local Venue

Booking a show can often be a daunting task for upcoming artists. The key is to keep your emails concise (as always) and provide the venue with as much information about you. An EPK is required for this email. This specific template is if you’re an upcoming artist looking to perform live without being paid (or not paid much) to start with.

Hey [Name]

My name is [Your Artist Name], A [enter your genre] artist based in [Country/State].

I'd love to perform at [Enter their bar/cafe/venue name] sometime this summer and wanted to reach out.

Here's a link to my EPK and a link to a playlist of my music for you to consider:

[Link to a playlist of your song]

Do you happen to have any open slots coming up?

P.S. I'm happy to play for free as I build my brand!

I look forward to hearing from you.

4. Getting Music In Commercials

When using this template, you want to ensure that you have your music catalog organized and in good order. As a Musicspace user, you have this all organized within your dashboard. This email should be sent to “Music Supervisors” - The people whose job it is to get your music into commercials/movies/TV-Shows, etc.

Important: Before you send your music to a Music supervisor, first find out more about their song placements so you can build a personal relationship with them. Study into some of their achievements or even their social media pages to understand their tone (especially when it comes to submissions).

This template is exclusive to Musicspace users on any paid plan - From as low as $3.99/month.

5. Submitting Music to Independent Movie Studios/Directors.

Movie studios and directors can play a big part in your growth as an artist. Although it’s exciting to reach out to these types of people, you cannot simply reach out of the blue without any sort of knowledge on who you’re contacting. Familiarise yourself with at least one of their movies (watch it if you can) and then use the email template below.

6. Get Influencers To Use Your Music

An influencer can expand your music catalog’s reach further than you can imagine, which is why this template will be super valuable to you.

Personalize this email where you see fit, but ensure that it isn’t too long-winded.

Hey [Name],

Sorry to email out of the blue.

My name is [your name], a [your genre] artist based in [country/state].

I'm reaching out as I'd love to know if you'd like permission to use my music catalog within your Instagram or YouTube content totally free (with credit)?

7. The Perfect Follow Up Email

It’s important to always follow-up with those you’ve emailed. Some people get busy and honestly, some just forget (I’ve forgotten a ton of emails in the past).

A follow-up email should be well presented, get to the point fast, and be considerate of the other person’s time.

Hey [Name],

I hope you're well! - I'm just reaching out as I didn't hear back from you after my previous email.

Life gets busy so no worries. In case you missed it, I emailed about [explain about your first email to give them a recap]

I look forward to hearing from you!

Best,

[Your Name]
[Your Social Links]

8. Delight Your Fans

Delighting a fan has a huge impact on your brand (and you as a person). Making one person’s day can have a ripple effect that can spread like wildfire. How often do you hear about artist’s responding to fan mail? Not too often, right? Which is why it’s imperative to go out of your way to make someone’s day.

This template will definitely make your fans smile!
